Logie Durno Ram Sale - Tuesday the 10th of August 2010

Tups in Pen at SaleAt the sale, the first of its type in Scotland and possibly Britain, rams are penned in groups of 4 or 5 with figures and traits displayed alongside. In an attempt to make EBV`s easier to interpret, this year we are incorporating the same data in chart form. We are working with Topline data in trialing this style of presenting performance records. No auctioneer is present, instead the rams are valued by ourselves just prior to the sale with a price set for each ram. Our aim has always been to make this sale time efficient, farmer friendly and low stress. Farmers realise our commitment to quality and the repeat customers that we have prove this has been a successful venture.

The concept of our sale is to provide farmers with a quality animal which has not been fed concentrates, dressed, or pushed in any way. The rams for sale are mostly born in April and are reared on grass. We feel that by bringing our rams out naturally they will maintain condition and work well, having a longer, more productive life.

Looking at the figures

Another benefit to buyers is that we can keep any purchased rams on the farm until tupping time, making the prospect of buying a ram easier.

  • Mostly April born rams
  • Reared on a low input system
  • No dressing
  • No concentrated feed
  • Signet Performance recorded
  • Recorded on ease of lambing and hardiness

Texel Lambing Ease - Lambing ease is recorded one to five when the ram is born, one being the best five being the worst:

  1. Ewe lambed herself.
  2. There was a slight assistance at birth.
  3. There was a hard pull during lambing.
  4. There was a caesarean.
  5. There was an elected caesarean.

Charollais Head Cover - Head cover will be shown using stars and was assessed at birth.
One star means the ram was barish at birth.
